The beginning

Seth, gritting his teeth and growling, stepped back out. "C'mon, you little buggers. I have things to do."

Cala stood and stopped Soren before he moved. "Sir, there's something different about that boy. He's not like other Misers," she said quietly.

Soren looked at the boy. "Should we be worried?" He asked her quietly.

"I don't believe so, but you are the expert," Cala replied. "I feel like we should know him."

Soren stroked his chin in thought. "Hmm...let us use him as our guide and see if anything else develops."

"Yes, sir," Cala answered with a nod. "I will do so."
She looked to the Miser and inwardly frowned. There was a part of her that agreed with him and his assessment of the exorcists, but she kept that to herself.

"Well then!" He clapped his hands together, letting his staff fall against his shoulder. "Shall we get a move on then? We have a powerful and dangerous demon to exorcise."

Seth wrinkled his nose and started heading north. "Just what I wanted," he mumbled, "Getting stuck with stupid exorcists."

"Don't worry, Mister Seth," Soren chuckled, following him. "I promise I won't exorcise you so long as you don't attack anyone."

Ezekiel walked up and down, trying to find something to concentrate on. He knew it sounded silly, but he couldn't wait to go and fix up the broken wagons. The whole reason he had even gone to the market place was just to find something to do. He kind of wished he would have asked someone from the safe camp to come here with him, but he supposed that going out alone was fine every now and then, too.

Zander continued his patrol of the marketplace. He slowly made his way out towards the outer edges of the camp along the fence, letting another soldier patrol the marketplace while he looked out at the city. "How things have changed..." he murmured quietly. He pulled out a cigarette, a rarity in the camp, and lit it with a match.

William reached the butchers stand, pretending to drop his book. As he bent to pick it up, he snagged a small piece of raw ham and stuffed it in his vest.

Seth sneered at the man, stopping when he saw the girl. He looked away, blushing a little. Stupid people. This is stupid. This is so stupid. He jumped on top of a car and walked across the hood. "Just hurry up. I have to collect things. You're wasting my day."

"He's a grouchy man," Cala said aloud but to herself. She walked behind Soren, vigilant to the surroundings.

Soren chuckled at Cala's words. "Alas, Misers are not all that different from humans. He gets just as grouchy and expresses as much animosity as a human threatened by a demon."

He had been walking past the butcher's stand, his focus going here or there. Suddenly, he stopped and stared as a male bent down and went to pick up a book- His eyes just barely catching the other stealing a piece of meat. He stared in disbelief, then looked away guiltily. You have to do what it takes sometimes, I guess....

India followed the man, looking over her shoulder. "Why did you stand up for that Miser?" she asked, angry and annoyed.

"How do you know I'm not a Miser?" Five asked, inhaling on his cigarette.

India started walking slower. "Are you?" she asked, clenching her fist.

"Wouldn't matter either way. If I am, I'd kill you and eat you. If I was human..." Five looked at her, "Well, you know why prisons were built. Way I see it, Misers are better than most criminals, but worse than the saints. They're a pack of wolves."

"There are Misers that have done worse than that. This city is proof," India motioned around her.

"If you want to get technical, humans did this because they listened to Misers. There are worse Misers, but there are better ones too. I've lived with both and hate to say it, I prefer the Misers in the city. At least I know they plan on eating my arm while I sleep. I can't trust a human with anything I own." Chuckling, Five looked at the woman. "Corruption doesn't choose race or species. Misers are born into corruption. Humans create it. The Lost correct it. We're a balanced planet."

"So what are the Lost, anyway?" India asked, picking up the pace and catching up to him. "I mean I get that there might be good Miser, but I've never met a bad Lost. Did they always exist?"

"There are bad ones, they just hide," Five replied. "They're less primitive than Misers. Think of it like this; The Native American tribes in the early 1600's facing aliens in the year 200000 A.D." He tossed the spent cigarette. "The Native Americans were called savages and what are aliens known for saying? 'We come in peace.' Then they enslave us all."

India began laughing. "Then the savages kill and eat the aliens and the humans live happily ever after?" She shook her head. "I get it, but at the same time, we don't have to kill Lost. But you didn't answer me."
